Peter Anton inspired sculpture
Peter Anton (born 1963 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American artist and sculptor. His primary subject matter is food with an emphasis on chocolates and other sweets. Often referred to as "Candy Warhol," Anton creates giant realistic sculptures and is best known for his "bigger than life" boxed chocolates.
Peter Anton produces oversized, lushly detailed, delicious-looking, and subtly unsettling sculptures of food, especially sweets. Like Claes Oldenberg, Anton plays with scale, blowing up donuts, lollipops, boxes of chocolate, and banana splits into absurdly large, somewhat menacing proportions. Viewers are more likely to be consumed by his colourful confections than able to consume them. Concerned with craft as much as concept, Anton carefully renders each detail of his sculptures, down to every last sugar crystal.
The students in Virtuoso I program spent time working on a 3 dimensional art project inspired by Peter Anton’s art piece “Ice cream sundae”. As always the subject matter of delicious food, especially desserts, is always greatly appreciated and accepted with joy and delight by our students. The students worked hard to shape out the scoops of the ice cream using crumpled foil and model magic clay. It wasn't an easy task attaching the scoops onto one another and into the plastic cup, but with lots of effort and persistence it certainly wasn't impossible. To finish they decorated their sculpture with fluffy paint, sprinkles and pompoms and voila their ice cream sundae was then ready for an art show.
