Angel Chiasson is an American artist based in Austin Texas. Her love of art showed up in early childhood and Angel would eventually corral that passion into a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with a Teacher Certification from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State!). Angel taught art for many years in public schools and in her own private studio. Angel paints a variety of subject matter and is very inspired by nature. Forefront in her art is bold, bright colours and patterns. “I love exploring new techniques and subject matter, but my love of colour has always stayed true. Inspired by the “Fauve” Expressionist movement, I use bright colours and juxtapositions. To me, Color equals happiness and I want to reflect the beauty and joy that can be found in this one great life.” I use such bright saturated colours in my work, colour-matching and clarity is important so that the happy exuberant feeling comes through. The students in the Virtuoso class showcased their understanding about positive and negative space through their Chiasson inspired still life project. They used watercolours to paint a background in many colours making sure to try all the colours that were offered. To finish they traced an image of a still life with a black oil pastel and coloured the space around the object. They covered the missed spots of the black background with acrylic paint and finalised with small touch ups to further define their still life composition.
