In 1969 while attending a community college in Mississippi, I did this portrait of another art student. He was one of the first black students to attend the college. The painting is based on the following question I asked him. “As a young black man, what do you want?” His answer was, “My people have fought for equality and all we get is what’s left over from the whites, Hell Man, we don’t want the whole ******* week, We’ll Take Tuesday!” His voice for equality made him a “Target” on the campus.
