As assigned by the Assoc. for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the theme for Black History Month 2023 is “Black Resistance.” Black resistance is an action that calls for opposition and change against systematic oppression. It can come in many forms, from protests to political art to education. In this piece, I showcase how the voices of black youth can be amplified to fight against and bring awareness to injustices, as well as to take pride in their own skin.
