Self Portrait , 2023
Oil paint on paper

In this piece, inspired by Rembrandt’s lighting and colour (although I didn’t like some of the paintings in that era because of their boring use of colour, I thought Rembrandt is different to them, he used many interesting colours and brush strokes and his ability in making the texture of something, eg. gold, silver, is astounding.) I made a self portrait. I used big strokes and greyish colours and some more pure colours to create the light. I always liked artworks that stares at the audience so I made one myself. When I’m looking at you, we are already making a conversation and expressing emotion to each other wishing for empathy. And I communicate with complete honesty and empressement, and I wish you are too.
