This exhibition has been so easy to curate. We found ourselves organically surrounded by a riches of artists within our community, focused or featuring collage techniques, each work made under this same umbrella and yet each so different from each other - how could we resist?

What we love particularly about collage is that even though it’s not a new medium, re-invention is inherent to the process, so there is always something new that emerges from it. Each artist in this show uses collage in a myriad of ways, all expressing something unique to them. We see a big range of play in this technique - classic cut and paste, and chine collé are present, but also continued experiments across various mixed media types. Painting, digital art, cyanotype, printmaking, textile play, book arts, the aforementioned cut-and-paste all make appearances in this show.

It’s exciting to take time with each work, observing how the materials and techniques combine to build and give depth to an image on every level you can think of. We present this show then to reflect on both the wealth of creativity within our community and to consider the many ways in which collage can speak.
