"Lieven Hendrickx seeks to characterise elements of everyday life blended with unusual details or contradictions

As illustration artist, he tries to pull the carpet from under your feet, by portraying moderately realistic characters that embody or contain well know elements, but then simultaneously reflect oddities, contradictions or conflicting visual aspects and poses. The push and pull of strange and stale can be glaring obvious or hidden in the smallest of detail one might overlook at a passing glance.

Having started his own stone Lithography studio ROTS just 5 years ago, the illustrations find their paths crossing with the techniques and textures unique to stone lithography and printmaking in general. Feelings and thoughts find their way into an illustration, that in its turn joins hands with a search for new techniques in color separation, or finding odd ways to texturise and fill his performers of the frivolous dance macabre.

Hendrickx is primarely selfthought as a printmaker and lithographer, a journey in Studio ROTS that goes parallel with his occupation as a freelance artist and designer."
