Chinese Illustrata was an encyclopedia of all western knowledge about China containing information on religions, culture, costumes, geography, plants, languages, and many other topics. It was also the first publication to include the original Chinese and Syriac text of the Nestorian Stele in a large pull-out sheet containing Chinese text in Romanization and Latin translation. Chinese Illustrata became one of the most popular and influential books on China in the 17th century.
