Project Brief:
Rehabilitation of the informal slum settlement along the Kham River and rejuvenating part of the riverfront.
Intervention:
After considering the existing typologies on site, I went through a series of iterations, optimizing the orientation and placement of the building units for ideal light and ventilation for each unit. The Facade system of the units is integrated into the structural system of the building. It also houses all the existing allied activities, with the addition of some more, to the ground floor, forming a public plaza towards the riverfront.
The premise of this model is that as one goes higher, one inevitably loses out on the social spaces that create community interactions. I have tried to recapture these moments even as the structure gets taller.
