Moses and Aaron before Pharaoh , 1567
24 x 18 in (h x w)
Engraving

In the biblical Book of Exodus, Moses and Aaron, leaders of ancient Israel, demand that Pharaoh release the Israelites from their decades-long captivity. When he refuses, Moses warns that God will send seven plagues upon Egypt. Here, Cort uses perspective to place the viewer amongst the bystanders, making them privy to this dramatic moment in the narrative. (SR)
