Artist Statement
Popular culture celebrates the transition of girl to womanhood, but rarely a woman’s movement into old age. In my recent body of work, I explore the contrasting pull to both resist and embrace the meaningful and humbling journey of becoming a middle-aged woman. I live with unexpected clarity while navigating the quick descent of things I have taken for granted, and this work centers my face and body as the subjects which physically reveal the result and expression of this experience.
Artist Bio
Jacqueline S. Dulin is a Vietnamese American artist in Garner, NC whose work explores personal experience, faith, culture, and identity. Her abstracts, landscapes, and figures examine the interplay between form and color and their relationship to emotion and spirituality. Often biographical in nature, her art wrestles with ideas of the passage of time and how it impacts her perspective. Jacqueline earned her B.F.A. in painting/art history from James Madison University and currently serves as a docent at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
