Liu Xiaodong is a Chinese neo-realist painter. Born in Liaoning, China in 1963, Xiadong received his MFA from CAFA, Beijing. He continued his artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Madrid. Xiadong’s large-scale oil and acrylic paintings portray the minutiae of daily existence around the world, including China, Egypt and the United States. Through his paintings, Xiadong explores the realities of migration, the environmental crisis and enduring economic hardship. Xiaodong has held solo exhibitions in Denmark, Germany, Italy and China.
