Goblet (The Luck of Edenhall), mid 14th century

Inscribed IHS, a Christian abbreviation for ‘Jesus, Saviour of Mankind’. By the early 15th century, it had found its way to Edenhall, in the north of England, where legend endowed it with talismanic powers – luck.
