"In 2005 I put down my paintbrush and developed my “Free-flow” painting method. I allow latex and acrylic paints to stream down from a wooden stick and onto a prone canvas. Someone once described me as “Jackson Pollack meets Van Gogh,” and I admit, with a laugh, that it does describe some of my paintings. I fill my artworks with as much love, joy and energy as I am feeling in the moment. I paint with music, depending on my mood: Van Morrison, classical, Leonard Cohen, etc. Each painting guides me to where it needs to go and I throw paint in response; I am often surprised with the result. I enjoy secreting shapes and colours within the undergrowth in some paintings; their discovery always delights. Long grasses and flowers swish in the breeze as dusk approaches on a hot summer’s eve. My studio is covered in paint, over the floors, up the walls and windows, and of course, my shoes and apron. I fling paint with wild abandon, capturing the energy, rhythm, and movement onto the canvas. Messy, yes, but so much more fun than a brush on canvas."
