Woven Tapestry

I have always been a maker and a lover of nature. My grandmother taught me to embroider when I was 8 and this led to a lifelong passion for textiles. Through the study of people and nature, I connect to the larger world around me, taking myself out of the insular act of creation, and stepping from observation into action. When I think about the theme that runs through my work, I come back to the act of seeing, of observation. My focus is on the practice of tapestry weaving. I have found the process of weaving to be a totally absorbing process. The repetitive action of the over and under of the thread manipulation, combined with the constant creativity of deciding shape, colour & all other details fully occupies both sides of my brain in balance, creating a profound sense of presence and joy. I can’t imagine a day without spending some time weaving.
