I delight in watching birds and exploring the diversity and beauty of the natural environment. When I retired, I had time to invest in creative quilting. I joined the Textile Arts Guild of Richmond and met others who delighted in making interesting pieces with fabric and took several classes in different techniques. My aunt and I both enjoy birds and she takes some fabulous pictures. I asked her for some photos of Cedar Waxwings because they have some great colours. Waxwings congregate in flocks in the fall and winter and gravitate towards plants with red berries. I chose three of her photos as the basis for the design of my fabric art piece “Fall of Waxwings”. It was made using techniques of appliqué, hand dying, thread painting, free motion quilting , fabric paint and of course imagination. I also enjoy taking my own photos in nature. After a long dry spell I find rain drenched foliage particularly intriguing.
