These ink and pencil drawings are based on photographs. “Neighbours” is part of series of freehand ink drawings of houses near my neighbourhood at the time. Older Vancouver homes have such character, history and hold memories of our past. The gap between the homes represents gaps in our society, isolation as a result of COVID and of living in the city. “Picnic” was based on a gathering at Parksville Beach where people enjoyed an outdoor concert during the summer months. “Friendship” is a drawing of two young boys meeting in a playground in Horseshoe Bay where they played together only to go their separate ways. Sandra Yuen is an artist, author and musician. She enjoys painting people, houses, florals and abstracts in acrylics. She has written three books and is working on a body of poetry. She also performed as part of the duo band “Beautiful Losers” at the recent 2023 Richmond Maritime Festival. Currently, she enjoys jamming with the band, learning new recipes and going for walks in the fall. Sandra is a lifetime member of the Richmond Arts Council. She has received the Courage to Come Back Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. She has a Fine Arts Diploma from Langara College and a Bachelors degree in art history from the University of British Columbia.
