Austin Lubetkin is a mixed media artist based out of Miami, FL and Los Angeles, CA on the autism spectrum. Many of his pieces involve both painting and augmented reality animation and come alive when scanned with the Artivive app for a multimedia art experience. Lubetkin’s work is a platform for activism and the pieces selected for this show were originally created for exhibitions about environmental activism. The pieces are part of an ongoing series by the artist titled “The World We Leave Behind” which explores psychedelic dreams of different apocalyptic futures exploring the eventual conclusions of human actions. The piece titled “The Last Generation” explored a world where a group of children stand in the shadows watching an exploding dying earth while one single child steps forward from the crowd driven by their own desire for change. The original painting incorporated metallic color shifting pigments which would reflect light in unique ways. The other pieces selected for a show explore a future where humanity has stagnated while nature has taken over. This series is currently part of a multidisciplinary experience with Binghamton University’s graduate publication Harpur Palate where authors and poets are invited to submit works inspired by the artwork and its message which will eventually be published in a journal titled Ecotopia.
