Taunya Oversby is a female Veteran with MST (Military Sexual Trauma) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that were caused by incidents that occurred while she was serving in the US Army. She is from Reardan, Washington and lives on a small hobby farm with her husband, her service dog and the farm animals.
Taunya uses art as a form of healing, self-expression, and growth. She has no formal art training, but enjoys taking online art classes whenever she can. The classes she has enjoyed the most have been with teaching artist Luz Thompson through Path with Art.
Most of her artwork is in the form of painting, using watercolor and acrylic paints. She also uses woodworking as another way to create art. Creating art allows her to just be, to take time for herself, to help relieve stress, as a way of expressing her emotions caused by traumatic events and as a tool for growing healthier in the wake of these traumas.
This particular piece represents how she felt on a daily basis as she dealt with the effects of MST. Her hope is that other victims of this type of trauma can see that they are not alone and that there is hope for future. That we CAN overcome being a victim.
