"Hope is a feeling which haunts one suddenly like a lightening shimmer, shining amid the dark storms amid the dark storms of despair and disappointment. It feels precisely like it is hidden behind the horizon on an autumnal day emanating joy and warmth. For me, my children are the ones who incite hope in my soul. They are the ones who illuminate my spirit. In my artwork, I summed them up by depicting a likeness of my youngest daughter. I’ve inherited a small bible from my grandmother. My mom used to put under my pillow as a spell to protect me from the world’s evils. Now I converted it into sparrows and butterflies for my young daughter to, sometimes, play with and talk to, and to sometimes be guided towards the light. I put all my hopes, dreams, and the knowledge and faith I inherited in her hands. Yes, my daughter is the source of hope in my life. She is the shimmering flower of autumn. Her eye’s light brightens the darkness of my soul’s failures and losses. It feeds me with a divine strength to continue my path and make a memorable trace on the world."
