Acrobat Family , 1905
104 x 75 cm (h x w)
Watercolour, Painting

The Acrobat Family, created by Pablo Picasso, captures an intimate moment of a young family. In the background, hints of green and blue suggest a circus tent setting. The mother sits at the center, ready to kiss her half-naked son on her lap. She wears a pale blue dress, and her raised foot hints she is possibly a tightrope walker. To the left, the father, wearing a harlequin costume and a bicorn hat, sits on a decorated drum. He gazes at his son with a serious expression. In the lower right-hand corner, a baboon squats, observing the family.
The painting expresses light and hope, although circus performers often face challenges. The future rests in the hands of the mother, represented by her young child.
The Acrobat Family is regarded as one of Picasso's significant works during his transition from the "blue" to "pink" period. He began to use vibrant and lively colors, including red, orange, pink, and earthy tones. It has been suggested that Picasso encountered the beautiful Fernande Olivier In 1904, and they fell deeply in love. Immersed in the bliss of their romance, Picasso embarked on his "Pink Period" (1904-1906). During this period, his artistic style became more poetic and harmonious.
In his "pink period", pink stands for love and hope.
