To me art is an expression of deeply held truths.

Having grown up in Vermont, and owning an organic farm with my husband in Maryland, used materials like corrugated roofing, chain link fence and truck mud flaps remind me of the earth, growing things, the weather, time passing and my childhood. I like to combine their raw character with more elegant materials like antique saris and glass beads. My pieces reflect how I see the world - used, gritty, dangerous, but also unexpected, new, mysterious, and interesting. There is a fierce joy in life.

My process is to try to turn off my analytical mind and play with colors, textures, shapes and meanings until something powerful happens. Spontaneity is important to me because, although much of it is undisciplined and chaotic, it allows unexpectedly interesting and honest things to happen. When it is powerful and minimally structured, it feels close to the truth that I'm trying to express.
