Throughout history, people were encouraged to ward off evil spirits and vampires using the power of Christ, and other objects. This was a very real, very tangible fear that was instilled into the population of the 17th and 18th century. Of course with time, the fear of vampires is overcome by rational thought and experimentation disproving their existence- but the demonization of homosexuality bears a striking resemblance to how vampires were handled. Priests and preachers spread irrational fear to keep people in line, convincing them the only way to be safe is through the lord. By placing myself in the position of “vampire” I ask the audience to make that connection. Really, is the sacrament of communion that different from a vampiric transformation?
