Du bist nicht allein , 2024
video, film

You are not alone if you think about it. We are not alone.

“Du bist nicht allein” is a video art installation that explores the sense of deep interconnectedness with self and others. The protagonist of the project, the seagull, flys in the sky. Using new media tools, the movement of the seagulls is traced out, which visually implies that the bird is flying alongside a fellow bird partner, when in reality it flies alone. This technique plays into the self’s interaction with the environment. Every action, leaving a trace behind it and connected to the journey ahead. The video is displayed in a window frame, which represents a transition from one state to another, emphasizing the connection between two states.

The project also questions the concept of arrival. Does one every truly arrive, or are we in a constant state of flux? The visuals also represent what happens as one travels between two states. What is happening that we cannot see?

The cyclical nature of the video sequence implies of an expedition between conscious and unconscious states. Looking at the same thing in different lights.
