This exhibit highlights the staggering impact of food waste. In France, an estimated 10 million tons of food are discarded annually, costing the economy approximately 16 billion euros. Alarmingly, one-third of this waste stems directly from household behaviors.
In response to this issue, a novel approach has been introduced: an environmental tax on wasted food. Households found to be wasting food will be subject to a tax, which imposes a 23% fee on the amount of food waste. This measure is not only a financial deterrent but also a reminder of the environmental toll of food waste to be used for sustainable investment including agriculture.
Through this piece, we aim to raise awareness about the environmental and economic consequences of food waste, and to encourage sustainable consumption patterns among individuals and communities. This art piece serves as a call to action, urging us to reflect on our daily choices and their far-reaching implications. Together, we can combat waste and strive towards a more food-secure future for all.
When will unnecessary overindulgence become enough?
