I woke one autumn night to the sound of something crashing through the brush in the back yard.
Bears used to be quite common in our area but we haven't seen one in four or five years so I decided the noise must have been made by the small herd of deer that cut through our woods some evenings on their way to the lake.
Going back to sleep I dreamed that a beautiful bear had come into the yard and snuffled under my window on her nightly prowl.
In the morning, thinking about that dream, I knew what I would paint and started right in. Usually I mull over an idea for ages, changing it often but not this time!
Maybe the bears will come back some day.
I can dream can't I.
