“Co-curricular activities” is one of the five interrelated components of the QMUL Active Curriculum for Excellence (ACE) education approach. As part of the QMUL Building Belonging project, extra-curricular and social activities are being developed and expanded across the university for QM students in both UK and TNE campuses. These co-curricular activities promote learning by doing in the form of short engaging activities, and at the same time, contribute towards fostering a sense of belonging. The activities are planned around the academic year with a link to both curriculum and festive social events. Feedback from participants have shown that students find activities fun, relaxing, engaging, and useful in terms of developing their practical skills, building their academic confidence and making social links with their peers and staff. Current activities include those based in the school of EECS which are focused on basic Electronics skills at a level that any student can participate and a series of social events activities organised by our BUPT-QMUL TNE team. We are in the process of enriching and expanding context-based co-curricular activities for a wider audience across the university, such as introducing some activities based in SPCS based on a similar setup with a Physics/Chemistry twist and coordinating social activities across all TNE campuses!
