The project revolves around the use of a digital app named OSRA (Oral Surgery Risk Assessment) which aims to ensure a more safe, effective, and efficient assessment of the anti-coagulation status of patients undergoing oral surgery procedures with bleeding risks. The app will overcome current challenges in methodologies used by dental clinicians and students which are time-consuming and inconsistent having a negative effect on patient outcomes and clinician confidence. Additionally, OSRA aims to be implemented as an educational tool in dental schools contributing to improved teaching regarding the protocols required to manage patients taking anticoagulants. OSRA has been developed in collaboration with the QMUL IT department and will consist of a series of questions that the student or clinician answers. Based on these answers the app will provide an actionable output of all the relevant guidance from the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) guidelines regarding anticoagulant assessment presented in a user-friendly format.
