The Laocoön Group , Hellenistic Period: Between 323 BCE and 31 CE
Craving

"The Laocoön Group" depicts the Trojan priest Laocoön and his sons being attacked by sea serpents. The sculpture exudes a sense of heroic beauty and strength despite the agony depicted in the sculpture. Laocoön's muscular physique and dignified expression reflect Roman admiration for bravery and physical resilience. The sculptural group's composition and intricate detailing convey a sense of struggle and suffering, but amidst the chaos, there is an aura of dignity and nobility. Laocoön's figure, with its powerful muscles and noble countenance, epitomises the Roman ideal of male beauty (physical strength and moral fortitude).
