Reflection , 2023
160 x 120 cm (h x w)
Acrylic on Canvas

This series comprises self-portraits symbolizing my encounter with my innermost self. Each piece serves as a reflective surface, capturing my myriad feelings, anxieties, and emotions, alongside my broader perception of the world. The internal dialogue that unfolds during the artistic process often yields unpredictable outcomes, akin to a diary chronicling my emotional journey.

Encountering one's inner self is not always a straightforward or pleasant experience. Perhaps within the tangled silhouettes and imagery, viewers may discern reflections of their own struggles, prompting an unspoken dialogue between observer and artist.

Within this project, I not only delve into my profoundest emotions through self-portraiture but also construct alternate identities with which I resonate. Through this exploration, I come to understand myself through different incarnations, each embodying its own flaws and imperfections. For instance, I may portray myself gazing into a mirror as a nun, only to have it reflect back a piga symbol of sinfulness and impurity. In this way, my canvas becomes a mirror reflecting the reality I perceive and experience.
