Propped , Contemporary: 1992

‘Propped’ by Jenny Saville confronts society’s discomfort with female fatness and sexuality by breaking the idealised female beauty standards. As society changes the depiction of the ideal female beauty standards for women changes, this can be seen in ‘Propped’ by Jenny Savile. ‘Propped’ represents a woman who doesn’t fit into traditional ideas of thinness and beauty. Yet despite this the woman in this artwork exudes confidence and power because she feels comfortable in her own skin. The depiction of this is crucial in reshaping the perceptions and acceptance of diverse body types.
