March Morning IV , 2024

oil on archival paper

This series of paintings are inspired by a morning walk in March from home to the studio in the city of New York. I mainly observe the blue sky between the skyscrapers; in particular, how the sky depicts the struggle between nature up against mostly human-made creations. This blue is the only part of nature that can be seen through the urban chaos of steel, stone, and glass. I observe the juxtaposition of natural versus artificial forces in the city, such as the motion and sound as the wind pushes the clouds through the sky versus the movement and noise of the human-made machinery of cars, subway trains, or the generators of buildings.
