Dr. Unity Dow (Botswana-Southern Africa) represents article 9 UDHR. Unity is a Botswana lawyer, human rights activist, specially elected member of parliament, and a writer. She was the first woman to serve on Botswana’s High Court. She served as Minister of Basic Education, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, and Minister of International Affairs & Cooperation. She has served on numerous international commissions and committees, evaluating the application of laws affecting the human rights of people in Kenya, Palestine, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. She has received numerous accolades and honors for her humanitarian work, including the Legion of Honour in 2010. Thanks to a lawsuit she initiated in the 1990s, Botswana women were granted the right to pass on their nationality to their children.
