Xixi Qian

Xixi Qian's art embodies a botanical punk world, reflecting punk's defiance of norms.

She explores societal rules through plants, symbolizing complexity and simplicity.

Focusing on second-tier Chinese cities, she examines social dynamics among generations. Using etching, she contrasts control in printmaking. Her string series envisions harmonious coexistence in her hometown's landscapes, addressing economic and cultural imbalances.

Influenced by "A Thousand Plateaus" and anthropologist Xiang Biao, she offers unique perspectives on society.

The string vibration—Souls-capes
The artwork titled “The string vibration” expresses the butterfly effect, where small changes can trigger long-term chain reactions. Using the symbiotic nitrogen-fixing relationship between leguminous plants and rhizobia as a prototype, the artist has created a plant punk world to convey an economic benefit system. Through plant elements, the artist aims to convey the idea that despite Wenzhou’s original identity as a harmonious and picturesque city, the rapid industrial development over the past two decades has led to significant economic and cultural imbalances. She intends to reflect on this phenomenon, possibly attributed to issues related to consciousness and mindset.
