They say 'you eat with your eyes', when I look at this image I can taste the sweetness of the mandarins. This still life was created in response to seeing the mobile food and drink brief on 29th February. I was peeling them for lunch when I noticed the soft afternoon light reflecting on the dappled orange skin. It inspired me to play around with a vintage vase as my main prop, and the reading lamp I was using at the time. I hope this images is a fit homage to the 17th century dutch masters, who managed to capture exquisite light in their paintings.
