This is an image of the centre of a CD Jewel Case, which I have placed between two pieces of polarising material. I used a light table for illumination. The beautiful colours observed correspond to the stress patterns of the CD Case, which can be changed by rotating the top piece of polarising material. The appearance of the centre of the CD Jewel Case reminds me of an eye with the black pupil in the centre, surrounded by the iris!
