Mao Zedong (1893 - 1976)

Mao led the Communist Party of China to victory in the Chinese Civil War and established the People's Republic of China in 1949. During the Cold War, China aligned itself with the Soviet Union, but Mao pursued an independent foreign policy, often engaging in conflicts with both superpowers. Mao's leadership and ideology had a significant impact on the global communist movement and contributed to the Sino-Soviet split.
