Cuban Quarantine (October 22 - 28, 1962)

The conflict occurred between the USA and the USSR on the territory ofCuba. Although this episode can easily be considered the culmination of the Cold War, the tension did not escalate into a military battle. After President Kennedy declared a "quarantine" of Cuba (called a "quarantine" to avoid the effects of a state of war), US Navy ships were deployed around Cuba to prevent Soviet cargo ships from delivering nuclear missiles or materials for maintenance and storage. On October 26, Nikita Khrushchev sent a letter to US President John Kennedy, which turned into a peaceful solution to the conflict. The Soviet Union agreed to remove all missiles from Cuba, and the United States agreed to remove all missiles from Turkey.
