Incantation Bowl , 6th-8th century
Pottery

This bowl is inscribed in Aramaic from the centre, working outwards. Towards the end it becomes indecipherable. Just to give you a flavour, it starts 'I adjure you, all evil witchcraft and evil spirits and mistress of the night and creatures of the day and mistress of the night and creator, blind and dumb and deaf, and one that utters spells and every maddening and tormenting spirit, concealing and breaking power and astonishing the eyes, and demon and satan, and shadow spirit and angel of evil and angel of death..."
