Faces

Lou Patrou is an American born artist who lives in the greater New York City area in the Hudson Valley. Lou has a portfolio that goes back over five decades.

He has been obsessed with creating faces since first drawing them while in high school in the 1960s. Over time the faces became stylized and he eventually began adding design elements into them and styling compositions with them. Some pieces are fictional portraits, some pieces are made of multiple faces or figures and are more decorative in their layout. Some pieces have intentional meaning, some have very little meaning and are merely design and form to obsess into.

"To keep things interesting I can't always follow the same direction or work the same styles, I like to change things up."

About 15 years ago Lou became interested in seeing his work duplicated onto products and began exploring the world of licensing. He says he is not an illustrator or pattern artist like so many artists in the licensing sector that generate work on a computer. Lou paints and draws first and later decides if there is a design element to take into his licensing catalog. He remains an exhibiting fine artist, secondarily pulling faces and designs out of paintings and drawings to be repurposed as licensable imagery. He is working with multiple licensing agencies now who are looking for opportunities for his artworks and designs across several product categories in the US, Europe and Japan.

Lou has exhibited his work in galleries in New York City, San Diego, Los Angeles, upstate New York and London. He has his work in hospitals in New York City, on buildings in Indiana and on outdoor billboards in New Orleans and Miami.
