Blue plays homage to Picasso’s Blue Period. Limiting the color pallet and using soft pastels, in this portrait of my mother, are to help convey how one could be content alone. While she is sitting in the corner and surrounded by blue, her facial expression is calm. Her blue surroundings juxtaposes her internal emotion. She is only thoughtful, not lonely. Highlighting that outwardly being alone can be perceived as lonely, when in reality one can be completely fulfilled.
