In Somalia, relentless drought has destroyed pastoral livelihoods, forcing families to abandon their homes and farms to seek refuge in temporary shelters and camps, like the one seen here. With the recent failure of a fifth consecutive rainy season, more families are at risk of displacement, and the threat of famine looms large. The effects of the ongoing drought have been compounded by soaring food prices triggered by the war in Ukraine, placing people at even greater risk of malnourishment and starvation. In response, World Vision’s dedicated staff in Somalia have been supporting displaced families with emergency food assistance, as well as programs focused on food security, livelihoods, clean water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition, health, and more. In 2022, we supported over 2 million people in the country, more than half of whom were children, and our goal is to double that number by 2025.
