Humans frequently draw inspiration from intricate beauty of nature, yet often forget to acknowledge their influence. One example of this is the Dutch word for bow tie: ‘butterfly tie’ owing to its contour. Additionally, I was inspired by fashion designer Corné Gabriels who elevates traditional neckwear with unique natural patterns. I sewed in every bead by hand to replicate the detailed pieces of chitin that make up butterfly wings and hope to show the merit of borrowing from flora and fauna.
