Gift of Mortality , 2023
40 x 40 cm (h x w)
Drypoint and watercolor on paper

This print drew inspiration from Egon Schiele’s “Death and the Maiden” and Gustav Klimts’ “Life and Death”. Both these artworks thematize how the knowledge of death does not belittle the experiences of life. This taught me how important it is to appreciate the presence and live in the moment. I have used color to depict how diverse life can be, contrasting how repetitive and monotonous death is. This is meant to communicate that death is inevitable but the way we spend our life is not.
