Attarouthi Treasure , 500-650
Gilded Silver

These treasures were buried by the parishioners of of a Christian church in the affluent merchant town of Attarouthi in Syria In the early seventh century when Syria fell first to the Sasanian Persians and then to the armies of Islam.
The heoght of the (undamaged) chalices ranged from 19.5 to 24.6cms
