FLAME OF ARABIA-INFINITY OF ZERO
36 x 60 x 1.5 in (h x w x d)
Acrylic on canvas

“Flame of Arabia” portrays the essence of a desert bloom, intertwining Western Arabic numerals (clockwise) from "1" to "0" with 28 Arabic letters fashioned in a spiral, symbolizing infinity.
Arabic culture, predating the ascendancy of Islam, stands as a beacon of civilization independent of religious affiliation. Throughout the Middle Ages, Arabic served as a conduit for the transmission of knowledge in Europe, particularly in fields such as science, mathematics, and philosophy.
This artwork pays homage to Arabic culture and the pioneering mathematicians and scientists of the ninth and tenth centuries. Their groundbreaking contributions to Algebra (Al-Jabr, meaning "reunion" in Arabic) and the subsequent dissemination of the Western Arabic numeral system across Europe and beyond are celebrated here.
