It’s Monday morning and I’m sitting in the front garden where Angelo would usually start his day. This little green sanctuary—with a surprising number of praying mantises and regular visits from three neighbourhood street cats—is a living tribute to our sweet Angelo. I’ve taken over the caretaking the last year and I feel him here all the time. Especially when new flowers show up overnight from plants you swear weren’t there before.
A year ago last night, Angelo passed on at 11:11pm. This is oh so Angelo. He found much meaning in numbers and synchronicities. It was one of the things I fell in love with the first day we were together.
A year ago last night was exactly six years to the date that Angelo and I arrived in Cape Town for the first time.

Angelo, I love you eternally. You changed my life and made it richer than I imagined possible. You promised me an adventure and, wow, did we have one. I’ll never see life the same. We had the best life together. We learned so much together. Through all the ups and downs, the core bond of love we shared made the challenges worthwhile. Thank you for sharing this world with me. You brought me to your home of South Africa and my heart is now here too.
You blessed me with a circle of wonderful new friends, a loving family, and a fresh connection to this magical world we live in.
We can create any future we desire. And it starts with cherishing every moment.
Any moment can be magical.
