Artist Statement:
As an artist, my work delves into the intricate tapestry of familial bonds within the Black community. Through my ceramic chainmail blanket, I aim to capture the essence of strength and resilience amidst
imperfection. Each deep brown terracotta ring represents a unique thread in the fabric of our interconnected lives. The incomplete and broken aspects of the chainmail pattern serve as powerful symbols of the complexities inherent in familial relationships. My inspiration springs from personal experiences, cultural influences, and a deep-seated desire to reflect and honor the multifaceted nature of Black familial dynamics within our society.

ID:
This ceramic chainmail blanket hangs over a plain white wall and pedestal. It comprises hundreds of deep brown terracotta rings arranged in an interlocking pattern. Some rings are plain brown, while others feature black slip and sgraffito lines, revealing the natural clay body underneath. The chainmail pattern, though cohesive, shows breaks and incompleteness in certain areas. This portrayal reflects the intricate and sometimes fractured nature of familial bonds within the Black community, capturing the essence of strength and resilience amidst imperfection.
