Tilling Rice (after Lou Shou) , Second half 13th century
Ink and Colour on Paper

This scroll illustrates the twenty-one steps of producing rice, each accompanied by a poem. The images have some delightful detail. A second poem was added to each section, composed and inscribed by the Qianlong emperor, who reigned from 1735 to 1796, hundreds of years after the artwork was created.
