Thatched Cottage in Autumn Mountains
, 1343
Ink and Colour on Paper
Wang Meng (1308-1385) was the grandchild of Zhao Mengfu, who worked in the Yuan court. Like his grandfather, He too was in government service, as a local prosecutor. This painting comes from this part of his life. He often includes figures in his paintings – playing, fishing or just relaxing – but always seemingly detached from their immediate surroundings
